Since releasing Inforbix Mobile on the iPad, we have received questions how existing Inforbix customers can use the mobile app. On today’s post, I’ll cover how both Inforbix web apps and Inforbix Mobile work together and how existing customers can access the mobile app on the iPad. I’ll start with a brief description of the Inforbix architecture. Have a look at this picture:
The simple explanation is this: as an existing Inforbix customer, using Inforbix Mobile requires no additional services. The iPad app offers you another means for accessing the Inforbix cloud where meta-data representing your on-premise product data is processed (remember, your on-premise data is not moved to the cloud).
Let’s now talk about how an existing Inforbix customer connects to the Inforbix cloud services using Inforbix Mobile on the iPad. I’ll take you through the two steps involved:
Step 1. You install Inforbix Mobile from the App store on your iPad. Once installed, you’ll see the welcome screen. I’ve numbered the three options available on the welcome screen for clarity:
Option 1: This is where existing Inforbix customers sign in
Option 2: This is where anyone can try Inforbix Mobile with a demo data set we’ve provided (if you’re an existing customer, it’s not your data)
Option 3: If you’re not yet an Inforbix customer, this is where you can go register to become one.
Step 2. As an Inforbix customer, you’ll go with Option 1. Enter <CustomerID>.inforbix.com in customer ID field, your login and password. You are done.! Here’s the screen you will see once you are logged in… you are ready to start searching for your on premise product data:
As an existing Inforbix customer, if you happen to currently run Inforbix Mobile in demo mode on the iPad (you chose Option 2), you can still connect to your company’s Inforbix services as follows:
1. Go to the config screen found on the upper left of any Inforbix Mobile results screen. Tap it:
2. You’ll see your company’s server and you simply choose the server and add it. You may be asked to enter you credentials if you haven’t done so already. You’ll only need to do this once. Here’s what the screen looks like:
3. Once you save the server settings, you are done! You’ve successfully switched from demo mode to using Inforbix Mobile to access your company’s product data.
Conclusion. I hope you now have a better understanding of how Inforbix Mobile works and how, as an Inforbix customer, you can begin using it on the iPad to access your product data. If you’re reading this and not an Inforbix customer, gIve Inforbix a try. Demo Inforbix apps here.
Best, Oleg
