We recently introduced a Test Drive Demo that gives anyone the ability to “test drive” Inforbix. We pulled together our own demo-data to give users a realistic feel for what Inforbix can do before deciding to register and using their own data. On today’s post, I want to provide a short backgrounder about the Inforbix demo, the demo data we used and how it comes together to give you an excellent idea of what the product can do. Let’s start with a picture:
The technology behind how Inforbix demos work is exactly the same as what our customers deploy. With one exception. We use our own data-set to emulate what a typical Inforbix customer would be using. That’s it. Everything else is precisely the same:
1. The Demo Data provided by Inforbix is scanned and the meta-data collected is sent to the Inforbix cloud.
2. In the cloud, the meta-data is processed.
3. Users access the demo data either via a web browser (if they went here) or if they downloaded the new Inforbix iPad app on the App Store and use the demo facility on it.
In both cases, each uses the same demo data. Our demo data includes file types from the following vendors:

The first exercise gives you a feel for how Inforbix aggregates information from different file types. This is helpful for data discovery.
The second exercise shows you how to navigate “deep” into a search result. This is helpful when locating parts you want to re-purpose or re-use and save the results for later use.
The third exercise will show you how Inforbix extracts useful data (e.g. a BOM table) from within CAD files.
And exercise four, gives you the basics for using tables to aggregate, organize, and present product data in meaningful and helpful ways.
