That’s because Inforbix price is based on the total number of files indexed in your company, not by the number users.
Discovery plan features
The Discovery plan is intended to give a you a feel for the full product at no cost or risk. Experience has shown that 20,000 files containing product data is sufficient for one or more users in a company to try Inforbix in a meaningful fashion, e.g. on a project and/or team level.

Expansion plan features
An upgrade to the Expansion plan occurs once Discovery Plan users are ready to index more folders or projects exceeding the initial 20,000 files indexed. On the Expansion Plan, pricing is based on the total number of files indexed; we won’t charge you for those first 20,000 files. Every additional 20,000 files indexed incurs a $600/year subscription charge. Inforbix Search is included at no additional cost as part of this price plan. For example, a company with 100,000 files indexed will be charged for 80,000 files or 80,000/20,000 x $600/year = $2,400/year. Inforbix includes simple admin tools that help companies and users keep track of the number of files indexed.

FAQs
Will the 20,000 files in the Discovery Plan be sufficient to get value out of Inforbix? Yes. If you’re new to Inforbix, we recommend you start indexing product data files that are a part of a small project or project team.
What kinds of files should I consider indexing? We recommend you index only those files in folders that are part of a project and contain product data. These include CAD files, Excel files, PDFs, Word Docs, etc. If you are not sure, then feel free to index first and ask questions later… 20,000 is a lot of files. Inforbix is very affordable, so should you exceed 20,000 files on your first index experience with Inforbix, the barn won’t be in danger of being lost. See FAQ below regarding what happens when the initial no-charge 20,000 files are exceeded.
Does Inforbix help me track the number of indexed files? Yes. For new customers, the installation wizard includes a file counter. For existing customers, there is an indexing service utility that keeps track of the total number of files indexed. With this utility you can add or remove file folders from the Inforbix indexing service.
How do I know when I’ve exceeded the first 20,000 indexed files and need to upgrade from the Discovery Plan to the Expansion Plan? Inforbix will contact you or the appropriate designate in your company and advise as appropriate. See next question regarding invoicing.
How will I be invoiced? There is no invoice for the Discovery Plan. For the Expansion Plan, you or your company will be contacted as soon as the first 20,000 indexed files are exceeded. You will be invoiced according to the number of files you plan to index. If you are not sure, don’t worry. Index away, we’ll work with you to determine makes best sense for you and your company. Also, see next FAQ.
How much will I be invoiced when I upgrade to the Expansion Plan? That depends on the number of additional files you want to index. At a minimum, $600 for a one year subscription assuming only up to another 20,000 files are indexed. The math is easy: $600/year for every 20,000 files indexed (aka a bundle). And don’t forget, there is no additional charge relating to the number of users.
How is pricing determined for file bundles with less than 20,000 files? Pricing is based on indexing up to 20,000 files. We call each 20,000 files indexed an index “bundle”. All pricing bundles are rounded up to nearest 20,000 files. For example, 72,000 files indexed is rounded up to the 80,000 files, 105,000 files indexed is rounded up to 120,000 files.
How does subscription work at Inforbix? Easy. You are on the Discovery Plan on a yearly subscription basis until which time you and your company upgrade to the Expansion Plan. Once on the Expansion Plan, the one year subscription clock is reset and from thereon will be based on the Expansion Plan. All Inforbix subscriptions are renewed at the appropriate anniversary date. Inforbix will contact you prior to renewal to confirm and reconcile usage.
How do I choose and pay for additional Inforbix apps? You can choose to use any available Inforbix app at any time while on the Expansion plan. Just start using it. It’s that simple. We’ll use the total number of files indexed to calculate how much we invoice you or your company for the Inforbix apps purchased . We’ll do the appropriate proration based on when the one year Expansion Plan subscription started. We’ll reconcile your usage of the Inforbix apps and the total number of files indexed on the Expansion Plan at the first year anniversary renewal.
When will I be invoiced if I index more files (e.g. add more projects) and increase the number of files used by Inforbix during the Expansion Plan subscription period? We don’t want to nickel and dime you. We’re confident you are going to see big value during your first year using inforbix. We’ll reconcile the total number of indexed files (be it 20,000 or 2,000,000) at the first anniversary renewal. Thereafter for subsequent years, we will reconcile at least once every three months. For that first year, index more files anytime. Please.
Can I pay Inforbix on a monthly basis? Not yet. If enough of our customers wish to pay on a monthly basis, we will offer monthly payments and announce when it becomes available.
My company has approximately 200,000 files containing product data. How much would Inforbix cost a year if I index all of them (and purchase one additional Inforbix app, e.g. xTable)? At most it would come to $7,560/year. At least, it would come to $5,400/year. And don’t forget, you won’t be charged per user. Everyone in the company can have access to Inforbix without incurring additional costs. Here’s the math:
- Applicable Index Bundles = (200,000 files / 20,000) minus Initial no charge Discovery Plan bundle of 20,000 files = 9 Index Bundles
- Total cost Expansion Plan (w/o xTables) = 9 Index Bundles x $600/year/bundle = $5,400/year
- Add xTable cost (assume no proration) = 9 Index Bundles x $240/year/bundle = $2,160/year
- Total possible cost for one year subscription = $5,400/year + $2,160/year = $7,560/year
Can I purchase multi-year subscriptions? Yes, but let’s talk.
